2Ti. 2:15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.
In this scripture the word approved is from the Greek dokimos {dok'-ee-mos}. In one century, more than eighty laws were passed in Athens, to stop the practice of shaving down the coins then in circulation. There were men of honour who put only genuine full weighted money into circulation. These men were called "dokimos" or "approved". Rightly dividing in the Greek is orthotomeo {or-thot-om-eh'-o} to proceed on straight paths, hold a straight course, equivalent to doing right to make straight and smooth, to handle aright, to teach the truth directly and correctly We must take the bible as a whole . We cannot take just a part of it and make a religion out of it. Although some try to do just that. There are some today that will tell you to be saved all you have to do is believe. This next scripture I give you is not the one they use. Jas 2:19 Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble. I don't think the devils are saved. Yet the bible says they believe. Thats a bump in the road, to the doctrine of only believe. If we will rightly divide the word there will be no bumps. We will not have to shave off any scriptures, the way will be straight and smooth and we will be teaching the truth.
There are others that teach water saves you . Some saying you only need be sprinkled with it , Others saying you have to be dunked clean under. Do a search of the words , saved by water. You will find there were only eight and they were all in noah's ark. Bump, bump, bump.
So what must I do to be saved ?
2Pe. 3: 9 ¶ The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance. Mk 1:15 And saying, The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe the gospel. Mk16:16 He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned. Ro. 10:13 For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. Ro 10:9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.
Mt 10:22 And ye shall be hated of all men for my name's sake: but he that endureth to the end shall be saved.
So then I must repent, believe, call upon the Lord, confess with my mouth, be baptised, (see baptisms pages) and endure to the end !
